Competent outfit from Benin that first started in 1998 and whose debut release "Le premier cri" (the frist cry) consisted of nine tracks recorded at Oscar Kidjo's Studi Ziiny. The four-piece outfit is trying to create a new way forward for rap and Hip-Hop in Benin.

According to Mediaspora.net, Dhalaï-K is a contraction of two words: Dah, meaning king or leader in Fon, and Malaïka, angel in Swahili. So the result could be translated as "archangel".

A new album is planned for 2004.

Members: Phenix, Nasty, Jaynetik and Phadhah.

Le groupe de hip hop Dhalaï-K a lancé le 06 avril son premier album dénommé "Le premier cri" fait de 09 titres et enregistré au studio Ziiny de Oscar Kidjo. La vision de ce groupe qui compte quatre (4) étudiants béninois est de donner une autre image du hip hop béninois. Le nom Dhalaï-K vient de Dah (chef, roi en fon, l’une des langues du sud du Bénin) et Malaïka (ange en Swahili). Dhalaï-K signifierait Archange. (source: Mediaspora.net)
